How do you use the internet if you can't see, can't use a mouse or trackpad, or have concentration problems? Digital accessibility is about enabling everyone to use your website or app. When the European Accessibility Act takes effect in 2025, businesses will be required to make their websites accessible for people with disabilities. Recognising that the new law will inevitably impact the hosting and domain name industry, our Registrars' Association (RA) invited expert Johan Huijkman to explain the ins and outs in a Dutch-language webinar.
Digital accessibility is a broad concept, covering the provision of access for blind and partially sighted people, the deaf and hard-of-hearing, people with ADHD, and those with mental or motor disabilities. Of course, it's almost impossible to anticipate exactly what kind of disability a would-be website visitor or app user may have. Nevertheless, a website builder can easily do a lot to improve accessibility if they know how.
During the webinar, Johan explained what registrars, hosters and web designers need to do to get themselves and their customers ready for 2025.And what can be done right away to make a website or app easier for people with disabilities to use.
