Details of the work we do to maintain the quality of the .nl domain

The .nl domain is one of the most secure top-level domains in the world. And we work hard to keep it that way. We take the lead on tackling any abuse that involves .nl domain names, for example. That work is aligned with our recently published vision document. Occasionally, the prevention of abuse involves cancelling a domain name's registration. We now publish details of our intervention activities in a quarterly Transparency Report.

A secure .nl domain. Our role.

Open and transparent

As well as intervening when we discover abuse, we sometimes take action or share information in response to legal proceedings started by others. Compared with the total number of .nl domains – nearly six million – the number of times we intervene is very small. Nevertheless, we think it's important to be open and transparent about our interventions, because they can have major implications for those involved. Our Transparency Report therefore details how often we have felt obliged to take action or share information, of our own accord or in response to legal proceedings. The report is updated quarterly.
