SIDN's EPP key relay wins Internet Innovation Award 2014!

EPP key relay, the secure domain name transfer process for DNSSEC-protected domain names, has won the Internet Innovation Award 2014. Antoin Verschuren, SIDN's Technical Advisor, received the prize on behalf of the team. The award is wonderful recognition for a vital contribution, which enables DNSSEC domain names to be transferred without any interruption of protection, thus improving internet functionality and use. An achievement to be proud of!

Internet Innovation Award 2014

This was the first year of the Internet Innovation Award, which was introduced to give innovative and eye-catching internet-related initiatives the recognition they deserve. The jury chose EPP key relay from a list of ten nominated innovations, because of its importance for internet security.

EPP key relay: the secure transfer process for DNSSEC-protected domain names

A team of technical experts has been working to standardise a secure domain name transfer protocol for DNSSEC. The result is the Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) key relay. In EPP key relay, the registry plays a pivotal role. DNSSEC key material is communicated from the receiving DNS operator to the releasing DNS operator via the registry, meaning that the transfer can be fully secured.
