Experience with IRMA valuable for pilot projects
The European Commission has selected two consortiums that SIDN belongs to – the EUDI Wallet Consortium (EWC) and the Digital Credentials 4 Europe Consortium (DC4EU) – for a large-scale pilot to investigate the interoperability and adoption of a European Digital Identity Wallet.
SIDN is one of 60-plus EWC members that include representatives of almost every EU member state. The pilot will test the wallet's use in connection with travel, for purposes such as secure passenger data exchange and the purchase of goods and services.
seDC4EU is working on the standardisation of educational and study data in the form micro-credentials (diplomas and study module results). The aim is to facilitate the international movement of students and the freedom to study anywhere in Europe. Within DC4EU, we work closely with SURF, GEANT and their European partners.
SIDN's CEO Roelof Meijer welcomed the selection, saying "The announcement represents recognition of all the work we have done to advance IRMA, the privacy-friendly online identity solution. We have been running IRMA's infrastructure and developing the IRMA app for several years. And the experience we've gained will be valuable for the European Commission's pilot projects."
