Roelof Meijer joins CENTR Board of Directors

"On the Board, I'll have opportunity to make a direct contribution to CENTR's great value to its members.”

Last Friday, our CEO Roelof Meijer was appointed to CENTR's Board of Directors. CENTR is an association of sixty-plus registries for country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs), most of them European. It works to raise quality standards, both amongst its members and on the internet as a whole. SIDN was one of CENTR's founders more than twenty years ago and has remained one of its most active members ever since.

Five-strong Board

Not one, not two, not three, but four CENTR awards! "Looking at where CENTR and its members are now, we've got every reason to feel proud"

Roelof Meijer was appointed at CENTR's AGM, along with Gilles Massen, CEO of Luxembourg's registry, Restena. The pair succeed Danny Aerts (Internetstiftelsen, .se) and Hilde Thunem (Norid, .no). On the Board, Meijer and Massen join existing members Barbara Povše (Register.si, .si), Philip Du Bois (DNS Belgium, .be) and David Fowler (CIRA, .ca). Board members are unpaid and can serve a maximum of two two-year terms of office.

Enormous value to members

"I'm honoured to join the Board of this unique organisation," said Roelof Meijer. "CENTR is important to SIDN and, I believe, SIDN to CENTR. We've been actively involved since CENTR's formation, working since the early days to help develop the organisation into what it is today. As well as sharing our ideas, expertise and experience with fellow members, we learn a great deal from other registries. We also collaborate in various working groups and on various projects. On the Board, I'll have opportunity to make a direct contribution to CENTR's great value to its members. I plan to focus particularly on getting all members actively involved and participating, and on increasing the value of CENTR membership by facilitating knowledge development and transfer, cooperation and high-value service provision."

About CENTR

The Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries (CENTR) is an association of registries for European country-code top-level domains, such as .de for Germany and .nl for the Netherlands. CENTR currently has about sixty members, who together are responsible for most of the world's registered domain names. CENTR's aims are promoting and participating in the development of high standards and best practices amongst ccTLD registries. Although the organisation has a European focus, there are no geographical restrictions on membership. So, for example, the registries for Japan, New Zealand and Canada are all members. CENTR provides a forum for the discussion of policy issues that are relevant to ccTLDs and serves as a mouthpiece for organisations engaged in development and management of the internet.
