TechTalk is back with a new edition on Tuesday 19 November! It's the familiar format: 2 fascinating speakers talking on proper tech subjects, plus good food. So come to the SIDN TechTalk and get inspired. Register soon!
SIDN operates at the heart of the Dutch internet. Often in partnership with universities and other higher education centres. And often participating in national and international working groups concerned with abuse, security and data. We also maintain close ties with a variety of technical and other bodies in the Netherlands. As a result, we have expertise in many key fields, which we love to share with the internet community.
Technical professionals and students from the Arnhem region who are passionate about their field, open to new developments and keen to share their knowledge.
Don't go eating before you arrive! The programme includes an enjoyable, free evening meal.
Anycast is a methodology for making an internet service available from multiple locations by making multiple route announcements for the same internet address. Because of its capabilities, anycast is in widespread use and very popular with DNS operators, including SIDN.
Verfploeter is a technique for measuring the effectiveness of an anycast infrastructure to facilitate optimisation. In Talk 1, Remi will describe the development of a test tool that enables users to perform verfploeter measurements. SIDN uses the tool to gather information about its DNS anycast infrastructure, as a starting point for making improvements.
Remi Hendriks has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Twente. He's currently a second-year PhD student in the university's DACS Department, focusing on ways of using anycast to improve the internet.
For the last few years, SIDN Labs has been providing an NTP-based public time synchronisation service called TimeNL, and doing related research. Like the Domain Name System (DNS), the fascinating Network Time Protocol (NTP) makes a vital contribution to the performance of a wide variety of internet applications. In Talk 2, Marco will explain the background to the decision to add NTP to our research agenda, and will describe TimeNL's technical design.
Marco Davids is Research Engineer at SIDN Labs. Being fascinated by the inner workings of the internet, Marco focuses mainly on researching and advising on the development of (new) internet standards, how they work and how they can be used. He also promotes SIDN's interests within the Dutch and international internet communities.
