Following the success of last year's hybrid event, we're organising another edition of SIDN Inspire in 2023. This time around, it'll be a purely physical gathering at Utrecht's Media Plaza. On Thursday 25 May, you can be sure of an inspiring afternoon learning about the latest developments and mingling with people from across the internet world. We only have space for 200 guests, so book quickly to avoid disappointment.

The internet is magic

The theme of this year's Inspire is The internet is magic. The internet is the biggest and most successful global collaboration of all time. Once something new and spellbinding, it's now an integral part of everyday life for almost everyone, like water from the tap. We've grown accustomed to the immediate availability of up-to-date, digital information, whenever we want it, wherever we are. Yet, despite sometimes reflecting the less agreeable aspects of modern society, the internet retains its hold over our imaginations.

Programme

A full afternoon of activities is planned, with 2 inspiring keynote speakers, 6 sub-sessions and an opportunity for networking over a drink at the end. Here's a preview of what you can expect...

1st keynote presentation: Jarno Duursma

Jarno Duursma will get us under way. Jarno is an independent technology expert, publicist, researcher and speaker specialising in digital technology. He's written 4 books on subjects such as artificial intelligence, creative machines, deepfake technology and blockchain. At SIDN Inspire, Jarno will take us on a guided tour through the world of synthetic media. By opening up countless new possibilities, synthetic media can supercharge creativity and productivity. In his presentation, Jarno will explore the opportunities that exist, set out a vision of the future, and highlight the risks and ethical issues that will require attention.

6 sub-sessions

Jarno's presentation will be followed by parallel sub-sessions, with a choice of 6 options:

  • Your digital data safe

  • Mastodon and the future of decentralized web technology

  • What is digital accessibility? And why should you care about it?

  • Brand monitoring and logo detection

  • SIDN Insights: a data platform for registrars

  • NIS2: the new European cybersecurity directive

2nd keynote presentation: Annique Mossou

We'll close the main proceedings with an inspiring keynote presentation by Annique Mossou, trainer and researcher for Bellingcat. Before joining Bellingcat, Annique served on a national police OSINT team, where she specialised in monitoring online jihadist propaganda. In her current role, Annique focuses on misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories and Ukraine. Although it's the internet's darker uses that tend to command news headlines, Annique will present a number of case studies illustrating how the internet can also be a magical place where people work for the greater good, often anonymously.
