.nl in the spotlight: fysiobo.nl

Confidence amongst businesspeople within the online community has enabled .nl to become the biggest internet domain in the Netherlands, passing the milestone of six million registered domain names in June. And, behind every business registration, there's a story. A story of everyday people turning their ideas into reality. We're celebrating reaching six million by telling some of those stories. This week it's the story of Danielle Galis, entrepreneur and founder fysiobo.nl.
"I started my physiotherapy practice six years ago. I live in Hoorn and was able to set up in the new Bangert & Oosterpolder neighbourhood. The practice takes its name from the neighbourhood: Fysiotherapie B&O. I started in shared premises, but the business has expanded enormously since then. There are now five of us, working in our own place. In fact we're soon relocating to the new neighbourhood health centre. We've got a branch in Heerhugowaard as well. I've gone from being a self-employed professional to a business proprietor."
"We started with another domain name, with a .com extension. But it was more expensive, and people don't associate a .com with a local physiotherapy practice. We couldn't have FysioB&O.nl, because the '&' character isn't allowed. So we went for Fysiobo, because it's short and recognisable. We use it for the website and for our business mail."
"Very easy! I've been doing it myself from the start in WordPress. I like to have hands-on control. We use plugins for directions to the practice, for getting in touch and for making appointments. Appointments are made using onlineafspraken.nl. I've also used Yoast a lot for search engine optimisation (SEO), but I'm now finding that Yoast conflicts with other plugins. The site and domain name are hosted by Yourhosting.nl, because they're contactable by phone and using an app."
"New patients often find us online. I also advertise with Google AdWords to get new clients. I've been doing that for about four years. To begin with, I dealt with AdWords myself, but after I while I started contracting it out to a service provider called Mediatrend. They handle everything for a fixed monthly fee, plus the cost of the advertising. It's a solution that gives us a lot of new client leads and helps with website optimisation. If they notice that people are searching for something a lot, they flag it up for me and we adjust the content accordingly."
"With people unable to call in at the practice whenever they like, the ability to make appointments online is more important than ever. But the flow of new appointments has held up well. A lot of people are developing problems due to working from home, because their working conditions aren't always great from an ergonomic perspective. At the same time, it's easier for people to come in for a consultation during working hours."
