.nl in the spotlight: bubbelpaleis.nl

"Luckily, the domain name was still available."

Baby girl bathes in a bath with foam and soap bubbles

Behind every .nl registration, there's a story. And behind bubbelpaleis.nl is the story of Chantal van Hees, who registered the name this spring for her new baby spa in Beneden-Leeuwen. Since 1 May, Chantal's 'Bubble Palace' has been welcoming babies for floatings and massages.

Where did you get the idea of opening a baby spa?

"I've always worked in the health care sector. In fact, I still do, on a freelance basis, but I wanted to start my own business. I had visited baby spas in other towns with my own baby, and had seen how much the little ones enjoy the experience. But most of the spas I'd seen were quite big, and some way off in the cities. There was nothing here in Beneden-Leeuwen. And I liked the idea of setting up a little two-bath spa, where there's plenty of scope for personal attention. With a smaller set-up, the babies can really relax. So we rented a commercial unit, and my partner has done a fantastic job of fitting it out. We opened on 1 May."

What a lovely domain name you've got! How did you think of it?

"I wanted the spa to have a fairy-tale image. And 'Bubbelpaleis' -- Dutch for 'Bubble Palace' -- seemed to fit the bill. I actually thought of the name and got a logo designed before it occurred to me to register the domain name. But luckily it turned out that bubbelpaleis.nl was still available."

What was it like starting up in the midst of a pandemic?

"We were allowed to open as soon as the rules for contact professions were relaxed. Customers are allowed to visit, as long as we take certain precautions. Local people started showing an interest straight away, after hearing about us on the internet or by word of mouth. We've already got a few regulars. Some nice reviews left by customers on our website and on social media have helped us get going. There's no denying that I've had a lot on my plate, though. I've been juggling motherhood, a job in the care sector and running a business."

How did you build your website?

"I don't have any experience building websites. I arranged the domain name and the hosting through Strato. At first, I thought I would build the site myself, but that idea never got off the ground. After a while, I decided to get a professional web designer to come up with a bespoke design using WordPress."

How are you planning to promote your site online?

"I've put sponsored posts on Facebook and Instagram. Personally, I prefer Facebook. The reach and the response seem to be better than with Instagram. Advertising is something I still need to look into. I'm planning to do an online course about it, but I've already managed to reach lots of people and got a good few customers. I left the findability to the website designer, who optimised the site using Google tools."

Where do you hope your business will be in five years' time?

"My aim for the next few years is to build up the little baby spa into a fulltime job. I would be so happy to run the spa for a living."
