Lars joined SIDN this year after previously working for a domain name registrar. We asked him how he's found working in SIDN's Support Department.

When did you start at SIDN?
On 3 July 2023.
What attracted you to SIDN?
I used to work for a domain name registrar. In other words, one of SIDN's customers. In that environment, you get to see that people have a lot of respect for SIDN, the work they do and how they do it. I'm also Arnhem born and bred, so working for an Arnhem-based employer suited me down to the ground! On top of that, I liked the idea of getting out of the commercial world and working for an organisation with a social mission.
How was your first day?
Great! We did a tour of the offices to meet everyone, and a series of introductory meetings was arranged. I really enjoyed it. That kind of thing helps you to feel part of the wider organisation and get to know your new colleagues. There's a good atmosphere around the place. People are open, informal and helpful.
What do you think of working in our Support Department?
It's taken some getting used to. SIDN is an organisation that does a lot and tries to do everything well. There's a relaxed atmosphere and all sorts of people work here. After an intensive introductory period, I'm now finding my feet.
Do you feel that you know SIDN as an organisation yet?
No, not yet. SIDN's activities are much more diverse than I previously realised. It takes a while to settle in and get to grips with everything we do, and why.
What's been difficult for you, and what's come as a pleasant surprise?
The main thing that I found hard was picking up all the professional knowledge needed to do the job. The Support Department uses certain systems and tools that you need to become completely familiar with. The thing that's surprised me in a good way is how well organised the coaching and internal communication are. There's ample scope for individual input, and you're given a lot of personal responsibility. They trust you and back you from the start.
Exploration and discovery are central to SIDN's culture. The organisation attracts people with that kind of mindset. What have you discovered at SIDN?
I used not to think of myself as naturally ambitious, but since I've come here I've discovered that I am. SIDN encourages people to learn and do new things. You get the opportunity to grow and expand your knowledge. There's lots of scope for professional development.
How do you see your future at SIDN?
That's hard to say yet. First, I want to continue growing in my support role. I'd like to do some mediation work as well. I always want to keep learning and developing.
