IRMA is a free, secure and privacy-friendly smartphone app. It's like an electronic passport, in which information about you is recorded. You can use it to log in to a service, or to prove who you are.
What makes IRMA special is that you never have to share any more information than strictly necessary. You can show that you're over eighteen, for example, without giving your full date of birth. Or that you live in particular town or city, without giving your exact address.
Get up and running with IRMA in less than five minutes
Choose a PIN and enter your e-mail address.
Create your first card with your phone number.
Create a new card using your DigiD to collect your personal data.
Note: this involves a one-time login with the City of Nijmegen, regardless of where you actually live. That's because Nijmegen runs a data portal for all the municipalities in the Netherlands. You're ready to log in to your first website!
Every site that supports IRMA has an IRMA login button. When you click that button on your phone, the IRMA app opens automatically. It'll ask whether you want to share your details with the site. Click 'OK', and you're in. The app will return you automatically to the site.
If you're on a computer, click the IRMA login button, and a QR code will pop up. Open the IRMA app on your phone and scan the code. You'll be asked about sharing your details with the site, and you simply click 'OK' to complete the login.
