  • I am looking for a domain name registrant. Where can I look it up?

    The Whois is an easy-to-use tool for checking the availability of a .nl domain name. If the domain name is already taken, you can see who has registered it.

    On the page looking up a domain name you will find more information about what a domain name is, how the Whois works and how the privacy of personal data is protected. Alternatively, you can go straight to look for a domain name via the Whois.

  • I would like to transfer my domain name to another registrar. What is the procedure?

    To get your domain name transferred, you need the token (unique ID number) for your domain name. Your existing registrar has the token and is obliged to give it to you within five days, if you ask for it. The procedure for changing your registrar is described on the page transferring your domain name.

  • The details registered about me/my company are incorrect or out of date. How can I get them updated?

    To update the contact details associated with your domain name, you need to contact your registrar. Read more about updating contact details.

  • Why is my domain name in quarantine?

    When a domain name is cancelled, we aren't told the reason, so we can't tell you. You'll need to ask your registrar. The advantage of quarantine is that, if a name's cancelled by mistake, you can always get it back.

    One common reason is that the contract between you and your registrar says you've got to renew the registration every year. If you haven't set up automatic renewal and you don't renew manually, the registration will expire.

  • Ik heb een klacht over mijn provider/registrar. Kan ik daarvoor bij SIDN terecht?

    Wanneer je een klacht hebt over of een geschil met je registrar dan zijn er verschillende mogelijkheden om tot een oplossing te komen. Hierover lees je meer op pagina klacht over registrar. SIDN heeft geen formele klachtenprocedure voor het behandelen van een klacht over jouw registrar.

  • What conditions do I have to meet as a registrar?

On Wednesday 25 May, the first hybrid edition of SIDN Inspire was held at Media Plaza in Utrecht. A feature of the programme was last year's thirty-fifth anniversary of the .nl domain. While prompting reflection, the anniversary also provided an excellent opportunity for looking ahead. Hence the event's theme: Future Internet.

First hybrid event a big success

The first hybrid edition of SIDN Inspire was a great success. The new venue – Media Plaza, Utrecht – could accommodate up to two hundred guests. Our event was well supported, with 140 people attending in person and about fifty following the live stream.

Interesting speakers and discussions

The programme featured a succession of interesting speakers, including Ruben Verborgh, Professor of Decentralised Web Technology. In his keynote presentation, Ruben set out his vision for decentralised data storage and personal data autonomy. He demonstrated how we, the data subjects, can regain full control of our data, and explained how we can make our data work for us.

Ruben then joined SIDN Labs Director Cristian Hesselman on the Future Internet Expert Panel to discuss the technology behind digital autonomy. The Expert Panel continued with NLdigital's Lotte de Bruijn and Sifted.eu journalist Alejandro Tauber, who considered the future of Dutch digital enterprise and platform socialism. The final topic explored by the Expert Panel was security and the future of a secure internet, which was illuminated by Inge Bryan (Managing Director NCC Europe at FOX-IT) and Wim Hafkamp (CEO of Z-CERT).

The main proceedings closed with a keynote presentation by tech entrepreneur Jim Stolze, who gave the audience a guided tour around the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Attractions visited along the way included smart AI solutions, how AI can be used for good, and the future of AI.

Corporate video launch

As well as featuring audio of no less a figure than Piet Beertema, SIDN Inspire was the launchpad for our new corporate video. An excerpt of Piet's contribution to the podcast series The Story of .nl was included in the event's opening sequence. Anyone who missed the corporate video launch can watch it here.

The afternoon was brought to an enjoyable close with refreshments – the first opportunity to mingle and chat face-to-face for a long time.
