Great expertise

"The .politie top-level domain is strategically important to the police," said Sanne Laarhoven, the force's Delivery Manager for the Cloud, Big Data & Internet product line. "Managing and maintaining a top-level domain is a complex undertaking, especially for an organisation whose core business is unrelated," she added. "In SIDN, we've got an excellent partner, with whom we enjoy productive and friendly working relations. Their services are good and we've benefited from their expertise in domain management and their knowledge of the domain name industry. They're up to speed with everything happening at ICANN, for example. That's a big plus from our viewpoint. It means that we can continue to focus on our primary role."

Internal use

It's now four years since .politie went live. The TLD is currently used mainly for building understanding of domain name management and delivering internal services, with only a small number of .politie domain names so far created. In due course, however, the force plans to employ the domain more widely.
