  • I am looking for a domain name registrant. Where can I look it up?

    The Whois is an easy-to-use tool for checking the availability of a .nl domain name. If the domain name is already taken, you can see who has registered it.

    On the page looking up a domain name you will find more information about what a domain name is, how the Whois works and how the privacy of personal data is protected. Alternatively, you can go straight to look for a domain name via the Whois.

  • I would like to transfer my domain name to another registrar. What is the procedure?

    To get your domain name transferred, you need the token (unique ID number) for your domain name. Your existing registrar has the token and is obliged to give it to you within five days, if you ask for it. The procedure for changing your registrar is described on the page transferring your domain name.

  • The details registered about me/my company are incorrect or out of date. How can I get them updated?

    To update the contact details associated with your domain name, you need to contact your registrar. Read more about updating contact details.

  • Why is my domain name in quarantine?

    When a domain name is cancelled, we aren't told the reason, so we can't tell you. You'll need to ask your registrar. The advantage of quarantine is that, if a name's cancelled by mistake, you can always get it back.

    One common reason is that the contract between you and your registrar says you've got to renew the registration every year. If you haven't set up automatic renewal and you don't renew manually, the registration will expire.

  • Ik heb een klacht over mijn provider/registrar. Kan ik daarvoor bij SIDN terecht?

    Wanneer je een klacht hebt over of een geschil met je registrar dan zijn er verschillende mogelijkheden om tot een oplossing te komen. Hierover lees je meer op pagina klacht over registrar. SIDN heeft geen formele klachtenprocedure voor het behandelen van een klacht over jouw registrar.

  • What conditions do I have to meet as a registrar?

Cybersecurity campaign in October 2022

Working together to make the internet safer in the Netherlands

Each October, we support Alert Online's Cybersecurity Month. As well as providing sponsorship, we organise activities, place content and share other campaign partners' content. This year, we want to work with our registrars to boost security in the Dutch business community by raising registrants' awareness of the scope for making websites and e-mail more secure.

In partnership with the RA's Marcom Committee, we're therefore developing a campaign for registrars, which we'll be sharing with the registrar community later this summer. Want to be involved? Put the campaign month in your diary now!

What is Cybersecurity Month?

The aim of the annual Cybersecurity Month is to promote cybersecurity awareness in public and private sector organisations. The campaign is organised by the Alert Online platform, a government-led initiative involving a network of partners, including SIDN, the Dutch Banking Association, Thuiswinkel.org. Microsoft and Google. In October, all the partners will be organising events, training courses and exercises to get their personnel, customers and contacts thinking about cybersecurity. The topic will therefore be in the spotlight for a month, providing significant opportunities.

Role of SIDN and the .nl registrars

As a registrar and/or a hosting service provider, you have a crucial role to play in making the Dutch business community more cyber-resilient. Secure websites and mail services are vital, especially for the resilience of small and medium-sized businesses. We therefore plan to 'claim' that theme and target group for our Cybersecurity Month activities. Throughout October, we want to build awareness of cybersecurity risks and solutions in a significant portion of the Dutch business community. Many of the solutions lie in the fields where registrars are active, including:

  • Open web and mail security standards (DNSSEC, DMARC)

  • Trust certificates (EV)

  • Private clouds

  • 2FA and secure logins

  • Server vulnerability detection (Hosting Infrascan)

  • Etc.

In other words, the primary goal will be to build awareness, creating corporate and service opportunities for you.

Campaign design

We're busy creating content and adverts to inform and advise the target audience about the key elements of website and mail security. All the material will be available for you to customise and use on a rights-free basis. We're also doing research, preparing press releases and putting together a toolkit with visuals and content, so that you can highlight your participation in Cybersecurity Month on your website and via your channels. If you register with us, we'll also flag up your involvement in our relevant communications. Finally, we're looking at the possibility of running an attractive co-funded campaign linked to the theme of cybersecurity. We'll let you know more later in the summer.

We should be ready to share details of the campaign design and resources by mid-July. All the materials and templates will be available on sidn.nl at least two weeks before the start of Cybersecurity Month.
