The first three pioneers are already known. The Municipality of Amsterdam will have the domain name gemeente.amsterdam, TEDx Amsterdam will register tedx.amsterdam and the company ID&T, known for the Sensation parties, will become a pioneer with dance.amsterdam.

.amsterdam follows the example of .london, .newyork and .berlin

The launch of .amsterdam is part of a worldwide trend. Cities such as London, New York and Berlin have already successfully opened up their 'digital territory' to increase the scope for economic growth driven by the internet. The experience of other cities gives cause for optimism that Amsterdam's attractiveness to the creative industry, start-ups and e-commerce will lead to intensive use of the .amsterdam extension.
