Major implications for online retailing
AI was everywhere at the Webshop Trade Days 2025. From personalisation to process optimisation: artificial intelligence was central to almost all the presentations at the event for the Dutch online retail sector. With 200 speakers and 270 exhibitors, every aspect of e-commerce was covered, but anyone with a particular interest in the rise of AI will have had no difficulty devoting the whole day’s programme to the subject. And the main takeaway was that AI isn’t going to transform the online retail sector. It already is doing.
For us, the Webshop Trade Days are a good opportunity to gauge sentiment in the internet retailing sector, which is a key market for .nl domain names. Several members of our team therefore attended the event. The rise of AI is particularly important because of its implications for internet use, as previously reported.
One of the most prominent themes of the Webshop Trade Days was customer personalisation. By harnessing AI, even small and medium-sized enterprises can extensively personalise their websites. Good examples showcased at the event included lifestyle brand Blond Amsterdam and outdoor retailer Fonteyn. Both showed how they use AI algorithms to analyse customer behaviour and make personalised recommendations.
AI-driven efficiency gains were also highlighted. Various examples were given of AI helping with stock management, route optimisation and demand forecasting, all leading to higher operational efficiency and lower costs. On a personal level, Beeckestijn coach and trainer Felipe Wesbonk made a live demonstration of how AI can be used to translate Google Analytics data into an SEO action plan in just 5 minutes.
For attendees interested in looking further ahead, there were several more visionary speakers, including Google’s Marleen Smit, who warned that Europe is in danger of missing the AI boat. The Webshop Trade Days 2025 provided a good overview of the various ways that AI is reshaping the e-commerce sector. This year’s event therefore provided more eye-openers than previous editions.
Next year’s Webshop Trade Days will once again be free to attend. The 2026 event is scheduled for 25 and 26 March. To see the programme and register, visit https://www.webwinkelvakdagen.nl/.
