Logo detection for security professionals
Brand abuse increasingly involves the use of visual elements, such as logos. As well as monitoring domain name registrations, SIDN BrandGuard can therefore scan .nl domains that make use of your logo. If abuse is detected, the BrandGuard service also offers the option of triggering immediate follow-up, such as legal proceedings.

Logo detection for brand managers
Logo detection allows you to see how partners, suppliers, customers, affiliates and franchisees use your logo. And show where your services and products are offered online. By scanning your logo, you are always aware of how your logo is being used by partners or third parties. That is why logo detection is not only interesting for security professionals, but also for brand consultants, brand managers, communication managers, corporate identity managers and retail marketeers.
Full overview of all .nl websites
If you're an SIDN BrandGuard user, and you enable the 'Logo detection' option, all existing .nl websites are scanned for use of the logo you send us. The first scan yields an up-to-date overview of all the .nl sites where your logo appears. After that, we'll re-scan the entire .nl zone once a month, plus each day's new registrations. All the results are summarised and presented via the web interface, enabling you to quickly prioritise any suspicious detections. The interface also lets you tag any sites that you don't want flagged up in future. If any detections warrant intervention, you have the option of getting legal assistance from our partner ICTRecht.
Client case Keurmerk BouwGarant
BouwGarant quality mark acts against logo misuse
Director of BouwGarant Rob de Groot on detected logos: "Most parties we speak to claim to be unaware of any wrongdoing. What we often hear, for example, is that the website has been put together by a 'cousin' who has raked up all kinds of logos. Well, so be it. For us, it is important that the logo is then quickly removed from the website. Some of the companies are really shady. We hear that often within the sector then. But that is a minority. Immediate legal intervention

If a third party uses a logo on their website without permission, the obvious response for the brand owner is to start civil legal proceedings. A Notice-and-Takedown procedure is also an option if the logo is clearly being used for an unlawful purpose, such as tricking customers of a particular bank to disclose card details. However, most detections require closer examination before action is taken, because often a website showing a logo turns out to belong to one of the logo owner's suppliers or partners, or a division of the organisation itself.
It's therefore helpful to make clear arrangements with business associates about how and when they can use your logo and brand name. Legal support is available to SIDN BrandGuard users as an optional add-on. Read more.
