Peering policy

SIDN is the central registry for all domains under the '.nl' top-level domain (ccTLD). With a public role to play, SIDN strives to operate on a completely transparent basis. A comprehensive overview of the organisation and its activities is provided on the corporate website www.sidn.nl.

Being the registry for the .nl country-code top-level domain, we use AS1140 for registry operations and AS48283 to give more resilience to the .nl DNS infrastructure by means of (local) anycast. We prefer to establish peering sessions with AS1140 through route servers on the exchanges on which we are present. Direct peering sessions with AS48283 will improve reachability of authoritative name servers for the .nl top-level domain, even if you already see AS48283 after other ASNs in your routing table. Peering requests with AS48283 will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

If you are interested in BGP peering, please contact us at peering@sidn.nl.

AS1140 Registry SIDN

We have an open peering policy.

  • We are present at AMS-IX and NL-IX and R-IX.

  • We would prefer to establish peering sessions through route servers.

  • We would prefer not to enter into a peering contract.

  • We do not accept prefixes smaller than /24.

  • We will filter bogon prefixes such as IANA reserved networks.

  • We will not accept incoming traffic that should originate from within our network.

  • Our AS at all exchanges is AS1140.

  • We will keep our objects at RIPE up to date and expect you to do the same.

  • We expect you to maintain certain routing standard levels, such as not announcing private AS numbers.

  • We support MD5 passwords on our peerings and we will work with passwords on request.

  • In the event of problems due to leaked advertisements, it is our policy to shut down peerings first and ask questions later.

  • Some parties offer to provide us with IP transit (full routing). If you are willing to do so, please contact us beforehand!
